The play is a Belgian-Chilean partnership that obtained the Best Play and Best Acting awards from the Círculo de Críticos de Arte de Chile (The Guild of Chilean Art Critics) in 2018. The Chilean actress Tita Iacobelli and the Russian-Belgian artist Natacha Belova direct their first joint “alone on stage” show with an actress and a marionette. The directors take the plot of The Seagull and place it in the declining mind of Chaika – an old actress saying farewell to acting with her last performance. Chaika plays Arkadina, a famous actress that enjoys her success, but like Chaika, she is also approaching the end of her career. “When one loses the connection to the world and the will to carry on, there is a vacuum, and that is what we look for, take ‘the fall’ as an opportunity for creation”.
A project funded by Fondo Nacional para las Culturas y las Artes de Chile, Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles, Théâtre Des Martyrs, Théâtre Jean Villar, and Mars – Mons Arts de la Scène. More information on www.ifoperator.be
